Did you know that starting in 2000, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4315852\/\">designated the first Women\u2019s National Health Week<\/a>, encouraging women to prioritize their health? Major government offices including the HHS and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealth.gov\/\">Office on Women\u2019s Health (OWH)<\/a> partner in this effort. One of their major goals is to close the research and awareness gaps in women\u2019s healthcare and provide information that will help women access and be aware of the information and services they need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NWHW 2024 theme is, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealth.gov\/nwhw\">\u201cEmpowering Women, Cultivating Health: Celebrating Voices, Wellness &amp; Resilience.\u201d<\/a> The goal is to help women take more control of their health experience through receptive environments, advocating for women\u2019s voices, accessing and scheduling preventative care, etc. In addition to these overarching goals, they have carefully selected \u201cobservance week spotlights\u201d for each day of the week, with additional resources for each focus listed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a><\/a>NWHW 2024 Observance Week Spotlights<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Sunday, May 12th: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealth.gov\/nwhw\/day-1-empowering-women-their-health-journey\">Empowering Women in their Health Journey<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Monday, May 13th: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealth.gov\/nwhw\/day-2-safe-sexual-health\">Safe Sexual Health<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tuesday, May 14th: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealth.gov\/nwhw\/day-3-shining-a-light-on-maternal-mental-health\">Shining a Light on Maternal Mental Health<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wednesday, May 15th: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealth.gov\/nwhw\/day-4-talk-about-it-reducing-womens-health-stigma\">Talk About It &#8211; Reducing Women\u2019s Health Stigma<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thursday, May 16th: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealth.gov\/nwhw\/day-5-understanding-care-is-there\">Understanding Care is There<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Friday, May 17th: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealth.gov\/nwhw\/day-6-reproductive-health-from-puberty-to-menopause-and-beyond\">Reproductive Health from Puberty to Menopause and Beyond<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Saturday, May 18th: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealth.gov\/nwhw\/day-7-women-and-heart-health\">Women and Heart Health<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealth.gov\/nwhw\/resources\">Link to the Entire NWHW Toolkit<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"788\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mopip.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/OWH_OsteoporosisToolkit_BlogHeader.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-949\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mopip.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/OWH_OsteoporosisToolkit_BlogHeader.jpg 788w, https:\/\/www.mopip.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/OWH_OsteoporosisToolkit_BlogHeader-300x171.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mopip.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/OWH_OsteoporosisToolkit_BlogHeader-768x439.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 788px) 100vw, 788px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/consumers\/womens-health\/national-womens-health-week-nwhw\">FDA also observes NWHW<\/a>, however, they promote a separate theme. This year\u2019s theme is \u201cKnow Your Bones\u201d with resources and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/media\/178480\/download?attachment\">separate toolkit<\/a> related to bone health, osteoporosis, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Health equity, raising the bar, and amplifying the voice of marginalized groups are central goals of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mopip.org\/index.html\">Missouri Partners in Prevention<\/a>. The NWHW information and toolkit resources are available for public use and ease the partnership for promoting this on your campuses through social media. Whether you can participate this week or want to use this information once students are on campus during the regular school year, this can be immensely valuable.
